#2 A Little History

Perhaps a little history is in order.

I’ve been a fan and an avid reader of romance novels for a long time. They’re basically fairy tales for grown ups, right?

I spent large amounts of my childhood reading The Red Fairy Book, The Blue Fairy Book, The Green Fairy Book and Hans Christian Andersen’s Complete Fairy Tales and long segments of my youth singing my way through all manner of productions including Camelot, Cinderella, and The Sound of Music. And I’ve spent countless stolen evenings as a young adult shivering my way through Victoria Holt’s gothic romances and Phyllis Whitney’s best mysteries. (FYI, right now I’m in the middle of an Eloisa James binge.)

What I love most about all of these—what I love most about the romance genre—is the happily ever after. Everyone deserves a happy ending and romances guarantee that you get one. Whether it’s the guy getting the girl, the bad guy being punished, the trusty pet finding her way home, or justice finally being served, happy endings are what I prefer to read.

And, with all that time reading fairy tale romances and books with happy endings, writing romance was a logical next step.

Ok, that’s enough of my history for now. Time to get back to writing. There are lots of happy endings to explore! Thanks for reading!
